City sex racket: Police records statement of flat owner

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Sunday recorded the statement of Swarup Mohanty, the flat owner of Sri Vihara area here, from where a sex worker of Kyrgyzstan national was rescued during a raid on Wednesday.

In his statement Swarup said, “No agreement was signed between the sex worker and me for the rent of the flat.”

“Since the Kyrgyzstan national had told me to take the flat on rent to keep her luggage, I had rented her the flat,” Swarup added.

Meanwhile, the rescued Kyrgyzstan sex worker has been admitted to Capital Hospital on Sunday after her health condition deteriorated.

According to sources doctors from Medicine and Surgery departments are attending her. She has been administered with two saline, sources added.

The Twin City Commissionerate Police is in touch with the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in this connection.

Besides, it has formed a special team to nab Sunil Meher, the kingpin of the sex racket, who had managed to give a slip to the police during the raid on Wednesday.

During the raid, police had arrested Somesh Panda for his links with Meher in connection with the case. During interrogation Panda had revealed that the Kyrgyzstan woman was brought to Bhubaneswar two days back from Kolkata, to be engaged in immoral activities. The woman who had landed in India on February 25 had agreed on a ‘deal’ with Panda though a middleman in Kolkata.

Police has come to know that Panda had been engaging foreign girls in flesh trade in the capital city after signing ‘special’ deals with them. Besides, he was targeting the club members, event managers and business tycoons to get handsome amount.
