Cuttack: The Cuttack Sadar police today arrested Bayalis Mouza Jharakata post master Narayan Das on charges of embezzling more than Rs 1 crore of several depositors.

Das, who had been absconding for past three months after locals brought misappropriation charges against him, was held from an unknown disclosed location by police.

After chit fund scam, several people had deposited money at the post office. Though passbooks of depositors were updated and receipts also given to them in return of money, the amount was not reflected in the records of the post office.

Following the scam, a complaint was lodged against Das at the General Post Office (GPO), Buxi Bazar in Cuttack.
