One-yr-old girl branded with hot iron to cure illness

Keonjhar: A one-year-old girl child was admitted to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital in a critical condition after she was branded with hot iron to cure stomach ache.

Two weeks back, the girl child of Dulari Patra, a resident of Uttam Singh Haating started suffering from stomach ache. Later, acting as per the advice from neighbours, family members took the baby to a quack who administered the hot iron branding.

When her condition deteriorated, the family members admitted the baby to the Barbil hospital initially and then shifted her to the district hospital.

In two months 16 children in the district have been branded with hot iron following superstition that it is a cure for various illnesses.
