One more dies of jaundice in Bolangir; toll rises to three

Bolangir/Boudh: One more person succumbed to jaundice in Bolangir, notwithstanding the administration’s increased alertness to tackle the water borne disease. With these deaths, the total toll this year on account of jaundice has gone up to three in Bolangir district.

The deceased have been identified as resident of the Sudhpara area. Today morning a woman from Sudhpara area was reported to have died after being detected with the water borne disease. Further details on the deceased are yet to be available.

Yesterday, 24-year-old Rakesh Nayak of Sudhpara area succumbed to the disease. Nayak was admitted to the Bolangir district headquarters hospital. However, after his condition worsened, he was shifted to Burla medical. Nayak succumbed to the disease yesterday, informed family sources of the deceased.

Earlier, while the Bolangir tehsidar confirmed the death due to jaundice, the chief district medical officer informed that the condition of other affected persons are not critical.

Meanwhile, different programmes and rallies to provide preventive measures and create awareness to tackle the disease are being undertaken in Bolangir.

Similarly, the spread of jaundice has also been reported from Boudh district. According to reports around 20-25 children have been affected by the water borne disease in the Butumunda village under Kantamala block of the district. While the disease has elevated concerns of parents and family members of the affected, the medical staff has assured of all preventive measures to bring the disease under control.
