New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday requested Union Health Minister JP Nadda to provide financial assistance to set up Regional Cancer Centres one each at Bhubaneswar, Burla, Berhampur and Kalahandi.

During his discussion with Nadda at the Sansad Bhawan here, Patnaik also urged the latter to grant letter of permission to two medical colleges in Odisha- Baripada and Koraput to commence classes from academic session 2017-18. He too raised the financial assistance issue during his discussion.

“I requested him (Nadda) to release the balance amount of Centre’s share of Rs 397 cr at the earliest for five medical colleges at Baripada, Koraput, Balasore, Bolangir and Puri,” Patnaik told reporters outside Sansand Bhawan.

He demanded that a Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences Centre should be established by the Centre at Bhubaneswar.

Patnaik is expected to return to the State capital tomorrow after completing his six-day Delhi tour.
