Berhampur: More skeletons are tumbling out of the closets of former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena in connection with his criminal activities in and around the silk city.

On Friday, city police registered a case against the ex-Sanakhemundi legislator and five others, including his father, for their alleged involvement in guthka business, both in Vizag and Berhampur.

The investigating officials arrested one Venkat Patro, who was detained by the police yesterday for his role as the chief facilitator to Jena’s gutkha business. Police said one Prashant Mohanty has also been held along with Patro for assisting Jena in the business.

Two persons are absconding in the case, police stated.

Mohanty’s interrogation led the officials to the seizure of gutkha making machines from Shreekhetra Vihar area of the city. The team also seized raw materials worth lakhs of rupees kept for preparing gutkha.

Meanwhile, ,town police has taken two vehicles of arrested corporator Murali Mohan into its custody. On Wednesday Mohan was arrested in connection with a land grab case in Gandhi Nagar area in the city. Besides, Mohan has been implicated in an extortion case.
