Cuttack: Dreaded criminal Ashok Behera alias Tutuni was arrested by a special team of Choudwar police after an encounter on Friday night. This was the third police encounter in Cuttack in the past 36 hours.
Acting on a specific input about movement of Behera, against whom seven cases are pending in Choudwar and Markat Nagar police stations, a team of police immediately raided the spot and chased Behera.
"Apprehending trouble, Behera first fired at the police team who also retaliated with gunshots. He has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital," said a senior police official.
A pistol and live bullets have been recovered from Behera's possession.
Earlier, two history sheeters -Alekh Routray and Kala Babu were injured in police encounter on Thursday.
Both of them worked for gangster Tito and were allegedly involved in attack against suspected terror operative Abdul Rehman’s brother Tahir.
Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh informed that so far eight miscreants have been arrested in connection with the firing on Tahir which was the fallout of some tender dispute.
