Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister today left for New Delhi on two-day visit to attend the centenary celebrations of his father, former chief minister and legendary leader Biju Patnaik scheduled tomorrow.

Official sources said the centenary celebrations would be held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in the afternoon in which Vice President Hamid Ansari and former Supreme Court Justice AK Patnaik will be the guests of honour.

The event is jointly organised by the Biju Patnaik Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, New Delhi and New Delhi Odia Association.

Apart from this, the chief minister will attend some official programmes, the sources added.

Meanwhile, in his reaction to the media today, BJD MP Nagendra Pradhan said it would have been better if the Biju Centenary celebrations was organised in a big way.

“I think the organisers should have invited the national political leaders who were very close to Biju Patnaik. By doing so, the demand of the Odisha government to honour the legendary leader with the highest civilian award of the country would have been  stronger,” he pointed out.
