Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) today postponed its semester exams in the wake of Bharat Bandh called by some groups to protest caste-based reservation.

This is the second time that the exams were cancelled this month. Exams on 55 different subjects were to be held at 88 centres across the State.

The exams will take place between April 12 and April 20, informed Vice Chancellor of BPUT.

The repeated cancellation of exams has irked students and teachers.

The university had earlier postponed the examination on April 2 due to Bharat Bandh called by Dalit outfits protesting dilution of provisions under the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Protests have been reported from several places in Bolangir, Rayagada and Mayurbhanj. Various educational institutions, business establishments, markets and other organizations remained closed due to bandh in these districts, informed sources.
