Sambalpur: The Death toll in today's road mishap in Sambalpur rose to ten with three more persons succumbing to injuries at a hospital. Earlier, seven persons were killed and three others critically injured in a road accident on NH-55 near Bhawanipalli under Jujumara police limits.

All the deceased hail from Parmanpur and were returning in a ‘Tata Magic' vehicle after visiting a temple at Hatibari.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.

The mishap occurred after a speeding truck hit the ‘Tata Magic’ vehicle killing at least four of its occupants on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries at Sambalpur district headquarters hospital.

At least 12 persons mostly women and children were travelling in the ill-fated ‘Tata Magic’ vehicle. Their identities are yet to be determined while the driver of the ‘Tata Magic’ vehicle is absconding after the accident.
