Bhubaneswar: Over three lakh people of 532 villages are still marooned in different parts of the state even as the major rivers started receding since Friday, Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra said. Over 1 lakh people have taken shelter on various river bunds, he added.

The families who have taken shelter on the bunds are provided with cooked food. As many as 209 free kitchens are opened for the purpose, Mohapatra stated.

With two more breaches detected in Paika river embankments in Jagatsinghpur district today, the total number of breaches stood at 38. The breaches in Paika embankments have affected people of eight panchayats. The death toll due to the flood rose to 37, official sources maintained.

Meanwhile, the flood victims are scared of another low pressure area which is likely to be intensified in Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, more rains are predicted in interior and coastal pockets of the State, Met sources said.
