Sambalpur: In an act of wooing the people of Western Odisha, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said his government has stepped up efforts to include the Sambalpuri/Koshali language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution at a rally here on Wednesday.
Addressing a congregation of kendu leaf pluckers, Patnaik said no effort was made by the previous governments to include the language in the constitution.He also talked about the 'good work' carried out during his government's 14-year rule in the state.
Among others, finance minister Prasanna Acharya and senior leader AU Singhdeo spoke about Naveen's efforts to bring about development in the region especially through allocation of more funds to Western Odisha Development Council.
Meanwhile, hitting out at BJD, senior congress leader Narasingha Mishra said, "In 2011, Bolangir was affected by drought, but the chief minister did not visit the district. They should look at the mirror before pointing fingers at others."
Highlighting the issues of the people of Western Odisha, BJP's state spokesperson Suresh Pujari said, "The state government has failed to act."
