Kendrapara: Uproarious scenes were witnessed during an inauguration ceremony of a sub-divisional hospital at Pattamundai today as BJD and Congress members entered into a scuffle during the programme.

Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena was at Pattamundai today to inaugurate the sub-divisional hospital and a 30-bedded mother and child care unit when supporters of Congress MLA Anshuman Mohanty had a minor scuffle with some BJD members.

Mohanty's supporters alleged that the hospital lacks adequate number of doctors and there is also no facility for free medicines. The inauguration function was just a publicity stunt and an attempt to woo voters ahead of the upcoming elections, alleged the Congress activists.

"The inauguration function was political. Eyeing the elections, the function was organised. Had the government been so concerned about the people of the State, it would have first filled up all the doctor posts lying vacant in the hospital," alleged Mohanty.

Responding to the allegations, minister Jena said, "After the setting up the sub-divisional hospital here, we will make all arrangements to appoint more doctors."
