Cuttack: After Samabalpur and Kendrapara, outbreak of jaundice has now hit the city. It has emerged as a major concern for the district administration with the rapid increase in the headcount of affected persons.

The number of affected persons, which was 63 till Monday evening, shot up to 68 on Tuesday after the city registered five more fresh cases affected with the water-borne disease.

According to sources, blood samples of 10 affected people have been sent to Micro Biology department of Shrirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital, out of which nine tested positive for Hepatitis-E virus.

Meanwhile, the district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) have geared up and launched emergency measures to check the spread of the disease. The administration has deployed health workers to distribute halogen tablets and drinking water in the affected areas.
