Bhubaneswar: Even as the monsoon has already entered all parts of Odisha, 57 per cent less rainfall against last year, which had witnessed 114 per cent, have been recorded till this time.
Met sources said, the State is supposed to get at least 186.4 mm rains by June 27, but only 79.9 mm rainfall has been recorded till now. The weather department held some causes responsible for the low rainfall such as absence of trough line from Rajstan to Bay of Bengal, absence of monsoon wind in south-west and north-east direction. Besides, the cyclonic storm, which had its centre in Arabian sea, has also affected the monsoon largely, Met sources said.
Except Nuapada and Nabarangpur districts, all others parts have received less showers than the normal. Boudh district recorded the lowest rainfall of minus 81 per cent while it is minus 80 per cent in Bhadrak district.
According to meteorological model, the monsoon movement will remain slow till next four-five days.
Notably, not only Odisha but also the whole country has lacked the noraml rainfall. Even Madhya Pradesh is still waiting for the monsoon.
