Woman, Child Mowed Down By Speeding Car In Odisha’s Balasore, 2 More Critical

Tension ran high at Jaleswar in Balasore district after a woman and a child died after they were mowed down by a speeding car near Naguan Chhak on Monday.

According to sources, two persons also sustained critical injuries in the mishap.

The accident took place when the woman along with some other persons was reportedly standing on the footpath. A speeding car jumped over the footpath and ran over them, causing the death of the woman and the child on the spot. The two injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

Huge Haul Of Ganja Worth Over Rs 1 Crore Seized In Koraput

Police have seized about 157 kg of ganja worth over Rs 1 crore from a house in Balel area under Machkund police limits of Koraput district. 

Sources said one person was allegedly planning to smuggle the contraband to other states.

Acting on a tip off that the narcotic was kept hidden in a house, a special team led by Nandapur Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) raided the house in the midnight and seized the item. 

However, no arrest has been made so far and further investigation being carried out by the police to trace those involved in the smuggling of the contraband.
