Despite a ban by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on the use of manja and other synthetic threads in flying kites, a hanging thread from a kite claimed the life of a youth in the Millennium City on Sunday.

In a tragic incident, a biker died after a kite string reportedly hanging on the road slit his throat at Pirbazaar in the city. The deceased has been identified as Jayant Samal, a resident of Bhayarpur.

According to sources, the mishap took place when Samal was driving a bike with his wife to his in-law’s house in the afternoon today.

A kite string hanging on the road got entangled on Samal’s neck and cut his throat. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have lodged a complaint at Jagatpur Police Station.

“The manja thread has once again claimed life of an innocent citizen. We urge the police to take necessary action against who are flying kite and selling the illegal manja thread,” demanded Samal’s relative.
