Woman arrested for alleged trafficking

Berhampur (Orissa): A woman was arrested by the railway police here for allegedly trafficking minor girls out of Orissa, police said today.

Jyotirmayee Behera of Bhandari Pokhari in Bhadrak district, who had allegedly trafficked eight girls, seven of them minors, to Mumbai on September 23, was arrested yesterday, they said.

The girls were rescued by activists of Childline here and after verification they lodged FIR against Behera.

Inspector-in-charge, railway police (Berhampur), M R Khan said police arrested Behera, who was allegedly taking the minor girls from Bhandari Pokhari, Jajpur and Keonjhar luring to provide them with a decent job in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Childline activists also rescued at least four runway students from the railway station here on Saturday.

The high school students of GT High School, Belaguntha in Ganjam district were trying to go out of the state, Sudhir Sabat, director of Childline, said.
