 Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts are all set to experience squally weather this weekend owing to the formation of a fresh low pressure area which will intensify into a cyclonic storm over Central Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that the fresh low pressure system, which lies over South Thailand and neighbourhood, is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea in the next 12 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression by December 2 and intensify into a cyclonic storm over Central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.

“It is likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of December 4, 2021,” said IMD.

The IMD has also issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Odisha from December 3 to December 5. Apart from the heavy rainfall alert, IMD has also predicted that wind-speed is likely to increase in Odisha from December 3.

Wind Warning:

- Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on December 2.

-Gale winds reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 3 and gradually increase to 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from the morning of December 4 for the subsequent 24 hours.

- Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to commence along and off north Andhra Pradesh — Odisha coast from the mid-night of December 3 and increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from December 4 afternoon for the next subsequent 12 hours.

Sea Conditions:

- Sea conditions would remain high over central Bay of Bengal from December 2 and high to very high over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 4 for the subsequent 24 hours.

-Sea condition will be rough to very rough over along and off North Andhra Pradesh — Odisha coast from the mid-night of December 3 and become high to very high from December 4 afternoon.

Fishermen Warning: Fishermen are advised not to venture into southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on December 2 and December 3, west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off north Andhra Pradesh - Odisha-West Bengal coasts during December 3 to 5 December 2021.
