In a shocking incident, a wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh was cancelled midway after the bride’s family were unable to meet the extra dowry demand from the groom & his family.

According to an Amar Ujala report, the incident took place in Salgawan village under Charra police station in Aligarh on April 16 (Sunday).  

The bride’s brother has filed a dowry case against the groom and three of his family members.

Reportedly, the wedding of the bride, a native of Salgawan village was fixed with a youth of Nagla Mahtab Nai Abadi on April 16.

On the scheduled date, the groom came in a grand procession for the wedding. After reaching the bride’s home the baaratis were having food when the groom's family made an additional demand of Rs 1.5 lakh as dowry. However, when the bride’s family denied to fulfil the additional demand, the groom and baaratis returned cancelling the wedding.

Meanwhile, the bride’s family alleged that, after they registered the FIR against the groom and his family, they have been getting death threats.

Inspector KP Singh of Thana Kotwali was quoted saying that based on the complaint of the bride's brother, a FIR has been registered against the groom and his family member including a female under Section 3/4 Dowry Act and Section 506.
