The birth of a child fills happiness, love, and excitement among the family members. While many parents name their baby out of love with a combination of both their names, some name their babies after famous personalities. Meanwhile, some babies get their name from their ancestors or as per traditional customs, considering numerology, astrology, etc.

In India and other such Asian nations, people tend to search for a name from different sources with a focus on astrology and numerology. But, can you believe that naming a child helps a girl earn in lakhs?

Yes, though hard to believe, it’s true.  A New York-based girl charges a whooping fee of over Rs 7 lakh to pick a perfect name for newborn babies.

Meet 33-year-old Taylor A. Humphrey, a professional baby namer, who gets paid $1,500 (Rs 1.14 lakh) by expectant parents. Some rich parents don’t hesitate to pay a surprising amount of $10,000 (Rs 7.6 lakh) for selecting the perfect name for their baby.

The New Yorker quoted Taylor as saying, “If you look at the most popular baby names, it’s such a telltale sign of our cultural values and our aspirations.”

The low-range service ($1,500) includes a phone call and a tailored list of names. The names in the list are prepared based on the parent’s response to a list of questions. Before releasing the list of names, Taylor conducts a genealogical investigation to search out old family names.

On the other hand, the high-range service ($10,000) involves selecting a name that will be on-brand with the business of the parents.

Taylor began her journey in 2015, and started sharing baby names and their meanings on social media. Soon, parents started seeking suggestions for naming their kids. And, in 2018, she realised that she could help many with her niche skills of selecting perfect names for kids.
