A lucky woman from Kentucky in the USA has won a whopping $175,000 (Rs 1.44 crore) from lottery tickets at a white elephant gift exchange during her employer’s holiday party.

The woman Lori Janes won the whopping lottery money during a Christmas gift exchange party organised by her employer.
According to sources, Lori Janes works as an office manager and treatment coordinator at a dental centre in Louisville. On December 13, her employer organised a holiday party for all the employees.

In the party’s gift exchange with her co-workers, Janes had originally received a $25 TJ Maxx gift card. But someone else stole her gift card following which she picked up another $25 scratch-off tickets of the Kentucky Lottery.

Encouraged by co-workers to scratch off the tickets at the party, Janes scratched the tickets and was shocked to win the lottery game’s $175,000 top prize.

Speaking about the win, an elated Janes said, “Everyone was going insane. People were getting their calculators out and double checking. A couple of people even scanned the ticket on the lottery’s app, just to make sure.” 

After taxes, Janes received a cheque for $124,250 and would use it to pay off her daughter’s study loans and the family’s cars.
Janes’ husband and children also initially couldn’t believe the news either.

“This is crazy. I’m truly blessed. I couldn’t believe it. It was a $25 gift exchange, and I won $175,000!,” she added.
