Steps to verify the validity of your PAN-Aadhaar linkage

The Income Tax Department of India has instructed all PAN card holders to link it with their Aadhaar card. According to the department, the deadline to link these two important documents was June 30, 2023.

Starting from July 1, the PAN cards have become inactive if not linked with the Aadhaar card. However, certain individuals are exempted from linking their PAN with Aadhaar.

People who are 80 years and older do not need to link their PAN card. Additionally, non-resident individuals as defined by the Income-tax Act, along with non-Indian citizens, are also exempted.

To check whether your PAN and Aadhaar linking is valid, you can follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Visit the official income tax e-portal website.
2. Locate the Quick Links section and select the "Link Aadhaar Status" option.
3. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar Card numbers.
4. Click on the "View Link Aadhaar Status" button.
5. The screen will display the status of the PAN-Aadhaar link.
6. If the link is already established, it will show a message stating "Your PAN (YOUR PAN NUMBER) is already linked to the given Aadhaar (Your Aadhaar Card number)." 
7. Otherwise, it will provide instructions on how to link the two cards.
