Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his strong disagreement with the notion that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would lead to job losses in India.

Speaking at an event where state-of-the-art electromagnetic interference and compatibility laboratories were unveiled at the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), Chandrasekhar passionately addressed the concerns surrounding AI and its impact on employment.

He firmly dismissed such concerns as baseless, describing them as "zero, non-sense, bakwas."

In Chandrasekhar's view, AI's current focus is on enhancing task efficiency while emulating human behavior.

He highlighted that AI technologies, particularly generative AI, contribute to improved performance and streamlined operations rather than replacing jobs.

The Minister drew parallels with past instances, referencing the unfounded fears of the Y2K bug that circulated in 1999.

He expressed a sense of cynicism towards doomsday predictions and urged for a more optimistic and rational approach to AI innovation.

Chandrasekhar's statement regarding the positive aspects of AI encapsulated his perspective: "Generative AI today is task-focused and essentially makes tasks more efficient, mimicking human behavior..."

He emphasised the need to view AI as a tool that enhances productivity and augments human capabilities rather than a threat to employment.
