Cuttack: Police arrested two suspected Maoists from the casualty ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here who had come for treatment after being severely injured, allegedly in police-Maoist encounter.

Deben Marandi and Manik Soren had reached the hospital on Saturday morning with severe injuries on their body. Seeing their appearance, doctors were suspicious and before they could do anything, police reached the hospital and nabbed the duo.

The suspected ultras were shifted to ENT ward for treatment. While the police declined to divulge details of the incident, it is learnt that the duo belong to Midnapore area in West Bengal.

The incident has raised many eyebrows regarding their presence in the town. While many questions remain unanswered about their network in Cuttack and if there are some other ultras hiding in the city, police said that investigation is on to unfold the matter.

It may be noted that Maoist leader Anna Reddy and Nanika Jamuda were arrested from Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar in February, 2008. And with today’s incident, it is suspected that Maoists are also active in the state capital and its nearby areas other than the Red Corridor.
