Legendry India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winning team captain Kapil Dev is happy that BCCI has taken a hard stance against the players for their refusal to play the Ranni Trophy.

Though Kapil didn’t take the names of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were recently axed from the central contracts, the former great expressed his pleasure about the hard stance taken by the board.

“I was checking the news on Indian cricket and I am happy with what BCCI did. Players should play domestic cricket. I know some players will suffer but let them suffer. There is nothing bigger than the country,” said Kapil during a recent interaction.

Notably, both Kishan and Iyer defied BCCI’s instructions to play red-ball matches. Instead, the duo decided to train individually. Kishan and Iyer didn’t turn up for Jharkhand and Mumbai, which didn’t go down well with the top brass of the Indian cricket board, and they approved the selector’s recommendations of not offering new contracts to the players.

Meanwhile, both the cricketers are preparing for their respective teams for IPL 2024. While Ishan is an important player of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Sheryas will lead the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
