Football great Lionel Messi recently sent shockwaves across the footballing world after revealing that he would be leaving his current club Paris St Germain to join Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami.

As per Messi, PSG wasn’t giving him the joy he had when he was at Barcelona where he won four UEFA Champions League titles, 10 La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys, and three Club World Cups.

“I want to get back to enjoy myself to enjoy my family, my children and the day-to-day. If the Barcelona thing didn’t work out, I wanted to leave Europe, leave the spotlight, and focus more on my family,” said Messi.

Messi’s goals changed after achieving his lifelong goal of winning the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year. After years of being under pressure to emulate legend Diego Maradona and win a World Cup for Argentina, Messi decided that it was time to put himself and his family first over his illustrious career.

The spotlight was intense on him ever since he made his senior Barcelona debut at the age of 17. So after achieving a lot in his career, it’s understandable for Messi to choose to go and play in Miami where the pressure to perform at the highest level will not be that much intense.

There was an offer in Saudi Arabia too. It promised him hundreds of millions if he chose to play there. However, Messi says he wanted his family to be able to enjoy themselves.
