Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli added another feather in his cap when he broke a record of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar during a league match of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Kohli continued his brilliant form in the mega event and scored 88 runs from 94 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. During the course of his knock, Kohli scored 1000+ runs in a calendar year for the eighth time.

In the process, Kohli broke the world record held by legendary Indian batsman Tendulkar. Tendulkar achieved the feat seven times during his illustrious career in ODI cricket.

Kohli also became only the second batter to score 4000 runs in international cricket against Sri Lanka. The star batsman achieved the feat in only his 72nd match against the Islanders. Tendulkar is the all-time leading run-scorer against Sri Lanka, having garnered 5108 runs from 109 matches at an average of 49.11 with the help of 17 hundreds and 23 half-centuries.

Notably, Kohli is just one century away from equaling Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds.
