Former England Captain backs India to win World T20 2024

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Nearly 17 years after India's ICC T20 World Cup win in 2007, Eoin Morgan tips India as the favorite for the 2024 tournament, highlighting their depth and talent. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Ireland, followed by a highly anticipated match against Pakistan in New York.

Indian players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

It is now nearly 17 years, when India last lifted an ICC T20 World Cup under the leadership MS Dhoni and his young team beating arch-rival Pakistan in South Africa. Since then, one could say India has been blessed to have Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and many in the team, but it has been a sorrowful state of affairs for the Men in Blue as they have failed to pass the final hurdle to win an ICC T20 Trophy after 2007.

Former World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has picked India as favorites to win ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

“The strongest side, even with injuries throughout the tournament, is India, without a doubt. Their strength and depth is absolutely incredible at the moment. And it’s almost probably, we’re talking about who the players that were missed out in their squad of 15 because of the quality that they possess,” Morgan said while speaking to Sky Sports.

“They are favourites for me. I think that they’re just the quality that they have on paper. If they produce it, I think they can, they can beat anybody quite well in the tournament,” he added.

As the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 begins in a few days, India will kickstart their campaign against Ireland on June 5, and will play Pakistan which promises to be a high-octane match on June 9 at Nassau County International Stadium in New York.
