Former Sri Lanka captain and veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews’ controversial ‘timed out’ dismissal is one of the highlights of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The incident happened during a league match between Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh a couple of days back.
However, players of all the teams Taking part in the mega event seem to have learnt their lessons from the incident. During their match against Netherlands at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday, England player Chris Woakes, who came onto the field after Moeen Ali’s dismissal, quickly noticed an issue with helmet and promptly informed the on-field umpire before the opposing team could appeal.
The incident occurred just before the third delivery of the 36th over. Woakes approached the umpire in a lighthearted manner, jokingly discussing the timed out rule.
The picture of the incident has gone viral over various social media platforms.
Notably, Mathews made history as the first player to be timed out in international cricket. Since then, the experienced cricketer has expressed his opinion on the matter. He also shared a video evidence that shows the timer still had five seconds remaining before the decision was made.
