Several cricket buffs have slammed former India opener Gautam Gambhir over his recent comments on Indian cricket where he bashed the idea of ‘hero worship’.

The former southpaw also took the names of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni while making the ‘hero worship’ statement. The comment has not gone down well with Dhoni and Kohli fans. Several fans hit back at the former India opener. Some even went on to claim that Gambhir is being ‘jealous’ of the super stars and hence making such statements. Some fans even dubbed his comment as ‘worthless’.

“Dear @GautamGambhir no one builds the popularity of @msdhoni or @imVkohli but their performance does. So, don’t be jealous and focus on your work,” wrote a fan on Twitter.

“Gautam gambhir has problem with hero worshipping, and he was indirectly talking about players like him who doesn't get fandom like Virat kohli and MS Dhoni, my question is to him that why if he doesn't become a hero so that he also can get worshipped like others,” another fan tweeted.

“Gautam Gambhir When will you understand what is the level of Virat Kohli and what is his fan following, only MS Dhoni can match Virat Kohli stardom @GautamGambhir,” commented another user.
