Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the team mentor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024.

KKR created history by acquiring the services of Australian speedster Mitchell Starc at the IPL 2024 mini auction in Dubai on Tuesday. KKR bought Starc for a whopping sum of Rs 24.75 crore.

KKR mentor Gambhir has explained why the franchise invested heavily in the 33-year-old pacer for the upcoming event of the cash-rich league.

As per the former KKR skipper Gambhir, veteran Starc will be of massive help to domestic bowlers at IPL 2024. He also went on to brand Starc as the X-factor of KKR for the upcoming IPL.

“Starc is an X-factor, there is no doubt about that. Someone who can bowl with the new ball, bowl in the death overs and more importantly, someone who can lead the attack,” said Gambhir during an interaction.

“The Australian pacer is going to be of massive help to our two domestic bowlers because both of them are very talented and you need someone to help them out in the middle and Starc covers those bases. It is not only about his bowling but also about leading the attack and helping all guys around him. So, somebody will have to pay for it,” he added.
