Ricky Ponting is reportedly under huge pressure for the poor performance of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024. Though Ponting has been with the franchise for years, DC hasn’t won any title so far..

Swashbuckling opener Prithvi Shaw, who played a couple of good innings in the 17th season, was dropped from playing XI against the Mumbai Indians in DC’s last match. Shaw was unsatisfied with the decision and was found involved in an intense conversation with Ponting on the field.

The former Aussie captain was trying to explain his stance to the explosive opener. However, Shaw was not ready to take what was being said to him. Meanwhile, former India opener turned expert Akash Chopra was surprised that such a kind of discussion occurred on the field.

“I don’t understand why his exclusion is discussed on the field. If he was told about the call on the match day, it is wrong. This should have been conveyed to him in advance. Shaw was retained by the franchise and has batted reasonably well this season, but I don’t understand why he is not playing today,” said Chopra on air.

Former India and CSK player Suresh Raina was also surprised by how Ponting treated Prithvi.

“Shaw should know if he is not playing in advance. The conversation Ponting had with the Indian batter should have taken place in the hotel,” said Raina.
