Speculation is rife among the fans and experts that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni will announce his retirement after IPL 2023. However, the Captain Cool has left the fans guessing about his future with his contradictory statements last week.

After their last match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk, Dhoni did an emotional lap of honour in the stadium with fans staying till late to get a glimpse of their hero.

Watching the mesmerising scene, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen urged the veteran wicket-keeper batsman to continue playing as he ‘doesn’t have to perform’ and just be ‘MS Dhoni’.

“I think everybody wants to keep going. With the impact player rule becoming more relevant now, I think MS Dhoni can continue playing in IPL. This is the one tournament he needs to get up for. He can rest his body. If something is wrong with his knee, he can try and sort it out over the next couple of months. Why not? He is a fit guy, he is an athlete,” said Pietersen.

The former England batter was truly moved by the love that fans shower on Dhoni. Watching so many people stay back after the encounter just for Dhoni, the former England captain just couldn’t stop heaping praise on the Captain Cool.

“Dhoni must love this. Why would he want to give this away? He is under no pressure. He doesn’t have to perform. He just needs to be ‘MS Dhoni’. And for his kids, wife and family members, how amazing must this lap of honour has been?” said the former England captain.

“MS is really inspiring. You want to play well for him. You want to be the best version of himself in a team that he is captaining. We have seen that for many years. He cares so much and when the captain cares so much, everybody starts to feel it. It resonates within the team,” the former aggressive batsman added.
