India will meet arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2023 opener on Saturday.

In a little respite for the Men in Blue, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi could miss the game against India that is set to take place in two days time.

Pakistan’s premier pacer looked concerned during their opening clash against Nepal in Multan on Wednesday. Shaheen bowled merely five overs in the game picking up two wickets. He was then seen leaving the field after speaking to the physio near the boundary ropes.

This is certainly not good news for Pakistani fans who were keen to see Afridi bowl against the star batters of India. However, there is no update or confirmation over his injury so far. Afridi is an important member in the Pakistan set-up and this could be a big blow for the side.

Co-hosts Pakistan may play India on multiple occasions in the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup. Interestingly, Pakistan can meet their bitter rivals thrice in high-voltage matches in a span of two weeks before the World Cup in India.

When it comes to playing the Asia Cup in the 50-over format, Team India has the edge over Pakistan as the Men in Blue have won seven games out of 13 matches. Former champions Pakistan have defeated India on five occasions in ODIs at the Asia Cup.
