Top-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was unable to bat following the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara during the ongoing fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad.

Iyer could not bat on day three of the match after complaining of lower back pain. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was sent up the order. On the following day, wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat joined Virat Kohli in the middle after Jadeja got out.

Revealing the reason behind, Iyer’s absence in the top order, BCCI confirmed that the right-handed batsman has been taken for scans and is being monitored by the medical team. However, it is unclear whether he will be able to bat in India’s first innings.

Iyer does not have this kind of back issue for the first time. Earlier, he also missed the first Test in Nagpur before returning for the second game in Delhi. The BCCI has not yet provided any further updates on Iyer’s health condition. However, as per sources, Iyer is likely to be ruled out of the match.

Notably, Australia have scored a formidable total of 480 runs in their first innings. India are currently leading the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test Series 2-1. While the hosts won the first two matches in Nagpur and Delhi, the visitors bounced back strongly to win the Indore Test in a convincing manner.
