Several fans and experts were surprised with the exclusion of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from India’s 16-man squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Eyebrows were raised across the cricketing fraternity over the development.

However, as per reports published in some section of media, omission of both the aggressive batters is rooted in disciplinary issues.

Ishan withdrew from the Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. Meanwhile, Shreyas had a forgettable Test series against the Proteas. He could manage only 41 runs in four innings in the series.

Ishan attracted criticism for his actions post the South Africa Test series. The wicketkeeper-batsman was spotted partying with former captain MS Dhoni in Dubai. However, the move didn’t go down well with the selectors, considering his earlier withdrawal from the Test series.

Moreover, Ishan’s participation on a popular TV show also raised further concerns. As per reports, Ishan jeopardized his spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad for the above reasons.

Meanwhile, Iyer’s exclusion is attributed to his poor shot selection during the South Africa Test series. The selectors had recommended Iyer to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy to regain form and match fitness. However, Shreyas opted for time off. Iyer’s decision has reportedly irked the selectors.

However, as per reports, Iyer seems to have made amends by making himself available for the Ranji game against Andhra Pradesh, starting on January 12.
