The speaker of the Odisha Assembly on Friday adjourned the House twice following pandemonium over crop insurance.
As the House assembled at 11 am on the second day of the Winter Session, the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress stormed into the well of the House and created a ruckus over the crop insurance issues.

Launching broadside against the government and condemning its standpoint on farmers’ issues, the members staged a demonstration in the House, stalling the proceedings of the House.

After witnessing noisy scenes, Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha first adjourned the House till 11.30 am. The House was reassembled but the uproarious scenes were witnessed again, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 4 pm.

On the other hand, the members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have staged a sit-in at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. They have demanded the Union government should raise the MSP.

Notably, the Odisha Legislative Assembly’s Winter Session commenced on November 24. The House had witnessed the same uproar yesterday as well as the Opposition including the BJP and Congress demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over his stoic silence over the issue.

The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly will continue till December 31, 2022, having 33 working days.
