The district unit of Congress party in Nabarangpur on Tuesday demanded stringent action against Jharigaon MLA Prakash Majhi who has been accused of sexually exploiting a woman.

The party further alleged that Majhi threatened to kill the woman hailing from Jagamara area in Bhubaneswar for bringing the allegations against him.

Moreover, the party alleged that Khandagiri police refused to register a case despite a written complaint.

Staging a protest in Nabarangpur, the party workers burnt the effigy of Majhi and shouted slogans against him.

“In her FIR, the woman alleged that Majhi kept physical relationship with her for the last three years. She added that the legislator forced her to abort the child after she became pregnant,” said Nabarangpur District Congress President Muna Tripathy.

“Majhi has insulted the Assembly and the district with his act. We strongly condemn the incident. If the allegation is true, the State government should form an inquiry committee and a case should be registered against Majhi immediately,” said Tripathy.

The Congress leader alleged that the State government is shielding the MLA.

“Instead of shielding Majhi, the State government should initiate stern action against him. Otherwise, Congress workers will stage protests and gherao all police stations in the district,” added Tripathy.
