Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has issued a notice for eviction of slum dwellers from Balisahi Slum in Jagatpur for the development of the industrial area.

However, the eviction notice has become a concern for the residents of the area including Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Deputy Mayor Damayanti Majhi who lives in the locality with her mother.

The IDCO has also put up an eviction notice on the wall of the deputy Mayor's under-construction house.

As per reports, more than 20 families who live in the slum have been asked to vacate the place by May 10 or face eviction.
Notably, the families have been residing in the locality for the last four decades while IDCO served the eviction notice couple of days ago.

Meanwhile, Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh assured that no eviction will take place in Cuttack without the accord of CMC.

"I have discussed with IDCO officials regarding the matter. Without the permission of the municipal corporation, no eviction can take place in the city. After discussion with residents and a proper rehabilitation plan, the eviction drive will take place," said Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh.

Regarding the eviction of Deputy Mayor Damayanti Majhi’s house, Singh said that he has held talks with IDCO authorities as to how the drain can be constructed without displacing the residents.
