A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra on Monday met the Governor to spotlight the worsening law and order situation in the state.

Alleging that the police have completely failed in maintaining the law and order in the State, LoP Mishra condemned the police excesses on BJP activists during a protest, arrest of the activists and arrest of two student leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Taking a savage swipe at the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mishra alleged that the leaders of the ruling dispensation are involved in several cases including minister Naba Das murder case, Mamita Meher murder case and Mahanga double murder case.

While a kind of atmosphere of fear is prevailing due to the increased cases of murder, rape and atrocities against women, the state government has completely failed in curbing crimes, said Mishra.

On the other hand, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was quick to respond to the saffron party’s attack.

Senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said, “Since just one year is left for the general elections, it is quite obvious that they (BJP) will target us. Before targeting us, they should compare the situation in Odisha with those of in the BJP-ruled states.”
