A Yellow Anaconda died in Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday morning.

It was among 10 anacondas kept in the enclosure number 46 at the zoo. Now, nine anacondas remain in the zoo following the death of this one.

The anaconda was just over a year old.

As per reports, the anaconda was spotted lying still inside the enclosure yesterday, following which the veterinarians treated it. However, the reptile could not be saved.

The exact cause of its death is being investigated by the zoo authorities and the veterinary experts.

Eight yellow anacondas were brought from Madras Crocodile Bank in Chennai in October 2019. The dead anaconda was the offspring of one of the anacondas kept there.

The yellow anaconda, also known as the Paraguayan anaconda, is a boa species endemic to southern South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world but smaller than its close relative, the green anaconda.
