In what can be termed as a risky affair, a doctor of Udala hospital in Mayurbhanj has allegedly been attending patients in an inebriated state.
The doctor has been identified as Sujit Kumar Tudu, a paediatrician posted at the govt hospital in Udala.
While he has been allegedly treating patients at the hospital while being drunk for some months, the matter came to the fore only recently after a purported video of him went viral on social media.
In the video, he seems so drunk that he could not even administer injections to patients. The security guard present at the hospital could be seen loading the syringe to inject the patient.
“The video, which went viral was during his outdoor duty. People have seen him sharing alcohol with the hospital sweeper staff and attendants. Once, he was so drunk that he fell down from his chair at the outpatient department,” alleged a local, Rajkiran.
Surprisingly, the Udala Sub-Divisional Medical Health Officer, Kamalakant Nayak has all the knowledge of the doctor’s alcohol consumption in the hospital during duty hours.
Speaking to OTV, Nayak said, “I have known this for some time. I even warned him in the past to not consume alcohol while on duty. I have given him a warning letter this time too. If he does not mend his ways then we will transfer him to another hospital.”
Tudu denied to comment on the matter.
