In a big blow to the Biju Janata Dal, suspended party leader Bipin Pradhan-backed candidate secured an uncontested win in the crucial by-election to the post of Digapahandi block chairperson in Ganjam district.

The unopposed victory spread cheers among the supporters of the suspended BJD leader. Led by Bipin Pradhan, the group easily emerged winner as no other candidates contested for the post.

Backed by Bipin and his supporters, Jamuna Naik was declared the winner. Celebrations erupted in Digaphandi after Jamuna’s terrific win. Jamuna and Bipin expressed their gratitude for the privilege of representing the people of Digapahandi and vowed to work for the development of the area.

“My main focus is the development of the block and our villages. We will start development by first solving the main and basic problems of people like houses under Awas, PDS rice, pension, drinking water facilities, and other schemes launched by the government. Almost everyone in rural areas is deprived of basic amenities and I will start from there,” said an enthusiastic Jamuna Naik.

“We won the by-poll uncontested as there was no other candidate. Our main agenda is development. We are here to serve the people. We will try to make sure that all the government schemes reach every nook and corner of the villages,” said Bipin Pradhan.

The by-election to the post of chairperson of Digapahandi panchayat samiti was earlier cancelled on August 31 following a law and order situation.
