Several tourists across the country are stuck in Sikkim as a flash flood in Teesta and its tributary, Lachen, wreaked devastation in Lachen Valley, North Sikkim on Wednesday. Among those stranded tourists, there is a couple from Choudwar under Cuttack district.

They have been identified as Dibyanshu Subudhiroy and his wife Seema. With internet and phone connections being snapped, family members are in a state of panic as they are not able to contact them till now.

“My son, daughter-in-law, and some of their friends had gone to Sikkim last Sunday. My son had last called his mother on October 3. At that time, he was saying that they have been staying at a hotel and it was raining a little bit in Sikkim. However, all of their phones have not reachable since Wednesday morning,” said Dibyanshu’s father, Ranjan Subudhiroy.

“I have lodged a complaint in this regard at the police station. After tracking all the phones, the IIC found that those are not reachable. He has assured me to take the necessary steps tomorrow after getting the CDR reports,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dibyanshu’s mother urged the administration to take necessary steps to bring back her son, daughter-in-law, and their five friends.

“I pray before God and urge the administration to bring all of them back to us soon. My son had last spoken to me over the phone on October 2. However, since then all of their phones are not reachable,” she said.

Meanwhile, Odia Jawan Saroj Kumar Das, who had gone missing along with 22 other Army personnel following the flash flood in the Teesta River due to a sudden cloud burst, has reportedly lost his life. At least 14 people have died while 102 have been missing after the natural calamity.
