Several taken ill after consuming food at birthday party in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Over a dozen people were taken ill after consuming food at a birthday celebration party in Baliguda of Kandhamal district. They were admitted to a nearby hospital on Sunday while others are under treatment at home.

As per reports, the feast was hosted at Kalyan Mandap in Baliguda on Friday. Hours later many of the guests complained of loose motion and vomiting. Family members rushed the affected people to the Baliguda hospital. 

Sabitarani Pal, one of the affected undergoing treatment at the hospital, said, “We had eaten mutton and prawn curries at the party. Hours later, we had stomach ache, followed by fever and loose motion.”

Rohit Pal, a youth admitted to the hospital, said, “We were all sick just hours after having the food. About 30 people from our ward are undergoing treatment at this hospital.” 

Locals suspected that food contamination could be the reason behind their sickness.
