In order to fill vacancies in Primary and Upper Primary schools, Odisha government has decided to recruit 10,000 more Junior Teachers (Schematic) under School and Mass Education Department.

However, the recruitment process will only be started after all the appointments are made in the ongoing Junior Teacher recruitment advertised in 2023, Odisha I & PR department said.

Notably, a similar notification was issued on October 23, 2023, for the recruitment of around 20,000 junior teachers in Odisha.

Later, some candidates moved the Orissa High Court alleging irregularities in the recruitment process.

The agitating aspirants expressed their displeasure and alleged that a cut-off list was not published before the merit list.

Another serious allegation they made was that several examinees with higher scores were not placed in the merit list.

Many examinees, having secured more marks, have been left out of the merit list while there is no clarity about how many of the successful candidates are from SC, ST, and UR categories, the agitating aspirants alleged.

However, OSEPA director Anupam Shah said that as per the resolution, they had published a draft merit list of 18, 805 candidates.

Following an initial hearing on the petition on January 19, the Court had asked the Odisha government to put on hold the final selection process and appointment of Junior Teachers till the next hearing.

Orissa High Court finally concluded the hearing on January 31 and reserved its interim order.
