A retired Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) was stabbed multiple times at his home, located just a stone's throw away from Town police station in Bhadrak district in the wee hours of Friday.

The retired physician, Raghunath Padhi was the CDMO of Jajpur. He was staying with his family at his residence in Bhadrak.

Following the incident, he was rushed to the Bhadrak Hospital where he is under treatment.

“I woke up at 4:30 am as usual. When I tried to go into my puja room, I saw a shadow in front of me. Suspecting trouble, I tried to cry for help, but before I could do anything, he sprang on me and stabbed me multiple times,” said Padhi.

“He stabbed me in my abdomen damaging my food pipe. He stabbed me in my thigh, chest and hand too. I think he was one of the drug addicts who regularly consume banned drugs near my house.” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Padhi’s home is just 500 metres away from Town Police Station. But the police have allegedly not reached the spot yet.

It is suspected that the stabbing might be a result of a failed loot bid from his home.

A neighbour of Padhi said, “This is not the first time such an attempt was made in his home. In fact, this is the third time somebody has tried to loot his home. Gold jewellery worth over lakhs of rupees was looted from his home in October this year. But the police are yet to make any arrests in that case. After the police’ inability to catch the thieves, they again tried to loot from his home.”
