In an important order with respect to the recruitment of constables, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday ordered for one-time relaxation of the age limit. The State’s apex court while hearing a petition relaxed the age limit by four years.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved the recruitment of 4,790 constables for the State police force. In this regard, an advertisement was published on December 30, 2022. However, the aspirants had filed a petition before the HC seeking a direction for the relaxation of age.

The recent verdict came with respect to the petition and the above-mentioned advertisement.

Considering the fact that no examination could be held during the period from 2018 to 2022 due to the pandemic situation, the High Court granted the relaxation. The High Court also clarified it that there could be no further age relaxation.

At the same time, the last date for submitting applications has been extended from January 21 to February 10. The examinations will be held on February 20.

As per the earlier release from Chief Minister’s office, the selected constables will be appointed in the 34 police districts and the Commissionerate Police in the State.
