In a delightful news for tourists and animal lovers, Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday welcomed its new inmates- Golden-Handed Tamarin And Squirrel Monkeys.

One pair from each species has been added to the animal stock of the zoo. They have been brought from Hyderabad. The animals will be kept in quarantine for one month following which they will be released into enclosures.

Both Golden-Handed Tamarins and Squirrel Monkeys are very attractive to watch due to the golden colour of their palms.

The new animals have been brought to the zoo as part of the animal acquisition programme for pairing single-sexed animals and for new bloodline infusion. The acquisition programme for acquiring a number of species was approved by the Nandankanan authorities in the last General Body meeting.

As per Nandankanan authorities, a target has been set to bring many more new species of animals to the zoo this year.
